First up in the current issue is The Morphlings, set around a young boy’s surprisingly deep empathy for animals, which helps in a handful of stirring rescues. In The Glitch Kid, the eponymous protagonist is enmeshed in a reality that’s beginning to crack apart and reveal a twisted technological underbelly. An origami creation comes to life in The Golden Paper Butterfly – or does it? Meera’s Dreams are not quite the stuff of nightmares, but they are certainly not exactly what they seem to foretell. Moonwalking for Bread and Butter is an upbeat comic about a young Shahrukh Khan fan, whose idol helps him cope with the stresses of a new job. Midway through the issue, Aakhir Kaise is a bilingual (Hindi and English) piece about a girl who leverages her ziddipana to throw off the weight of social expectations and achieve the goals she has set for herself.
The young girl at the centre of The One Who Feels the In-Betweens picks up on people’s insecurities, and helps them overcome them. The next story, Seeds of Memory also features a heroine with a similar ability, but in her case, she helps grow other people’s abilities from seeds. In Elsewhere Girl, the protagonist hops dimensions fighting existential threats, till dire straits call her home. Bullies are no match for the main character of Eyes Beyond the Ordinary and her most unusual companion. A young boy, not gifted like his competition, nevertheless prevails in No Surprises. The issue concludes with Lifeline, a tale of a young artist with a miraculous brush.
